    The B.Sc. Accounting programme of OAUSTECH seeks to produce Accounting professionals with core competences in the various Professional areas within the accounting field, who are adequately prepared to discharge their duties professionally, with a high level of integrity and diligence. Products of the Programme should be able to design and operate accounting systems to suit the needs of an organisation, whether public or private.

    Programme Objectives

    Graduates of this programme shall be distinguished by their professional excellence, integrity and entrepreneurial culture. Specifically, the programme will:

    • Produce students who can compete excellently in the international labour market;
    • Inculcate in the graduates, best practice traditions and cutting edge technologies of the Accounting profession;
    • Prepare students to be equipped for roles in advanced teaching and research.
    • Develop students in leadership and interpersonal relation skills that are essential for working effectively in organisations;
    • Produce graduates with sound academic and professional skills that can compete favourably with other Accounting graduates in any other parts of the world; and
    • Consolidate and expand the frontiers of knowledge in accounting through development of teaching materials, research, and publications.

     

    Learning Outcomes

    The learning objectives and outcomes are designed to provide students with capacity for critical thinking, technical knowledge, communication, teamwork, ethics and social responsibility, entrepreneurial skills, and use of technology.

    On successful completion of this programme, the student will be able to:

    • Basic Concepts: Explain basic concepts and techniques of core accounting subject matter, including financial accounting and reporting, managerial accounting, auditing, taxation, and accounting information systems.
    • Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and compliant financial statements in accordance with the relevant accounting standards and regulations. Prepare and evaluate financial statements in line with the provisions of IFRS and IPSAS and statements issued by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria.
    • Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop budgets, forecasts, and financial plans to support decision-making and strategic planning within an organization. Analyse management control systems, prepare budgets, and provide decision support for cost management and other managerial decisions.
    • Auditing Skills: Conduct internal or external audits, evaluate internal controls, and provide assurance on the accuracy and integrity of financial information. Analyse accounting processes, evaluate risk, and recommend appropriate internal controls for accounting processes.
    • Accounting Software Proficiency: Utilize accounting software effectively to record transactions, generate reports, and streamline financial processes. Use accounting software to input and analyse data, improve efficiency and support management decision making.
    • Taxation Knowledge: Understand and apply tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and optimize tax planning strategies for businesses or individuals. Prepare basic tax returns, analyse and communicate the effects of basic tax rules on individuals, partnerships and corporate entities.
    • Cost Accounting: Analyze and control costs within an organization, make informed pricing decisions, and assess the profitability of products or services.
    • Financial Analysis: Interpret financial data, assess performance metrics, and make recommendations for improving financial health and operational efficiency. Perform basic analyses of financial systems and statements, and write reports on performance, financial conditions and management effectiveness.
    • Communication Skills: Communicate financial information effectively to stakeholders, present analysis and recommendations clearly, and collaborate with team members to achieve organizational goals. Demonstrate skills and abilities relevant to the accounting profession, including effective written and oral communication and working effectively in teams.
    • Ethical Standards: Adhere to ethical principles and codes of conduct in accounting practices, maintain confidentiality, and uphold professional integrity. Identify ethical dilemmas in accounting practice and develop appropriate courses of action that consider the well-being and needs of the community and society beyond the boundaries of the professional community.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with accounting regulations, standards, and reporting requirements to uphold transparency and accountability in financial reporting.
    • Academic and Professional Development: Engage in academic and professional development activities and become more aware of opportunities in the accounting profession.
    • Leverage: Leverage entrepreneurial and technological skills and experiences for career success.

    By mastering these learning outcomes, students will be equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and competencies to pursue a successful career in accounting, contribute to the financial health and decision-making processes of organizations, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethics in the field of accounting.

     

    ADMMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    a) UTME

    Candidate seeking admission into the Accounting programme must possess at least minimum of credit passes in five ‘O’ level subjects at not more than two (2) sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any other two subjects from Commerce, Accounts, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agriculture , Geography, Government, Yoruba, Business Management, Business Studies, Civic Education, Computer Studies, History, Insurance, Marketing, Office Practice, Tourism, Yoruba at  WAEC, GCE, NECO or NABTEB.

    UTME Subjects: The U.T.M.E subjects are English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any one of the subjects listed in ‘O’ Level requirements.

    b) Direct Entry

    1. Holders of ND/HND Certificate in relevant areas of Management Sciences with a minimum of Upper credit for ND and Lower Credit for HND.

    2. GCE (A/L), JUPEB, IJMB passes or its equivalent in two subjects Economics and any one of Mathematics, Statistics, Biology, Geography, Agricultural Science, Accounting and Business Management.

    About OAUSTECH

    Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa was established by the Ondo State government in 2008. It was initially named as Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH).

    It is a technology-based institution, which aims at providing the needed manpower training for industrial and technological development of Ondo State and Nigeria as a whole.
