    The philosophy of OAUSTECH Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration (B.Sc.) is to equip the students with knowledge and skills for the role of a sound bureaucrats and managers in Nigeria and the international community. Also to help in preparing the students to be conversant with the principles, theories and techniques required for conducting research for the purpose of problem-solving and widening the frontiers of knowledge within the area relating to the discipline. The cardinal philosophy is to develop the mind, impart theoretical and practical knowledge on individual in developing self-confidence, be innovative and self-reliant in the fields of administration and management.

     

    Programme Objectives

    The major objectives of the B.Sc. Public Administration programme are to:

    (i) Produce personnel with adequate competency in managing complex relations in bureaucracy and the ever-changing business environment;

    (ii)  Turn out sound bureaucrats and managers for Nigeria and the international community;

    (iii) Produce administrators with adequate knowledge and skills for efficient administration of organizations and societies;

    (iv) Build skillful problem-solvers in policy initiation, formulation, implementation and evaluation for effective and efficient goal attainment; and

    (v)   Raise graduates who are versed in administrative theories, principles and practice, being the foundation for studies in higher degrees in Public Administration and allied disciplines.

     

    Learning Outcomes  

    Upon completing a Public Administration program, students are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

    • Understanding of Public Administration Theory and Principles: Articulate core concepts, theories, and practices in public administration, including governance, public policy, ethics, and organizational behavior. Differentiate between various models of public administration and governance, and apply them to real-world contexts.
    • Policy Analysis and Formulation Skills: Analyze public policies, assessing their impacts on different stakeholder groups, and use data-driven insights to inform policy recommendations. Formulate evidence-based policies that address specific social, economic, and environmental issues, taking into account ethical, legal, and cultural dimensions.
    • Public Management and Leadership Abilities: Develop management skills essential for public service, including strategic planning, budgeting, human resource management, and performance evaluation. Demonstrate leadership qualities such as effective communication, ethical decision-making, team collaboration, and crisis management in public sector settings.
    • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving in Public Sector Contexts: Apply critical thinking to diagnose complex administrative problems and propose practical solutions that enhance organizational efficiency and service delivery. Utilize analytical tools to assess public sector challenges and design solutions that balance efficiency, accountability, and public interest.
    • Quantitative and Qualitative Research Skills: Conduct quantitative and qualitative research, collecting and analyzing data to evaluate policies and programs, and make informed decisions in public administration. Demonstrate proficiency in research methods relevant to public administration, including surveys, case studies, cost-benefit analysis, and program evaluation.
    • Ethics and Integrity in Public Service: Recognize and navigate ethical dilemmas in public administration, promoting integrity, transparency, and accountability. Uphold professional ethics and public service values, advocating for policies and practices that benefit communities and promote social justice.
    • Cultural Competency and Diversity Awareness: Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues in public administration, applying culturally sensitive approaches in policy-making and service delivery. Recognize the impacts of public policies on different demographic groups and promote practices that foster inclusivity and social equity.
    • Effective Communication and Public Engagement: Communicate complex public administration concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, including citizens, stakeholders, and decision-makers. Engage with communities and stakeholders, fostering participatory governance and building trust between public institutions and the public.
    • Adaptability to Evolving Public Sector Needs: Show an ability to adapt to changes in public sector requirements, technological advancements, and evolving governance models. Stay informed about current trends, challenges, and innovations in public administration, and apply new knowledge to practice.

    These learning outcomes aim to prepare graduates of Public Administration programmes to be competent, ethical, and proactive public servants capable of contributing meaningfully to society through public sector work.

     

    ADMMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    a) UTME

    Candidate seeking admission into the Public Administration programme must possess at least minimum of credit passes in five ‘O’ level subjects at not more than two (2) sittings including English Language, Mathematics, Government, and any other two subjects from Economics, Geography, Literature in English,History, Accounting, Financial Accounting, Book Keeping, Commerce, History, Business Studies, Business Management, Tourism, Computer Studies, Office Practice, Marketing, Insurance, Civic Education, Christian Religion Knowledge at WAEC, GCE, NECO or NABTEB.

    UTME Subjects: The U.T.M.E subjects are English Language, Government, and any two subjects listed in ‘O’Levels requirements

    About OAUSTECH

    Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa was established by the Ondo State government in 2008. It was initially named as Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH).

    It is a technology-based institution, which aims at providing the needed manpower training for industrial and technological development of Ondo State and Nigeria as a whole.
