VC Charges Advancement Board to Elevate OAUSTECH to New Heights

    • May 07, 2025
The Vice-Chancellor of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, has implored the institution's Advancement Board to propel the University to unprecedented heights. He urged the Board to focus on substantial infrastructural enhancement and development, aggressive fund mobilization, the procurement of state-of-the-art teaching facilities and research equipment, as well as the cultivation of benevolent philanthropists and donors for the holistic advancement of the University. The Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Foluso Adetuyi, delivered this charge during the inauguration of the Advancement Board, which took place on Tuesday, 6th May 2025, at the main campus of the institution. Prof. Ologunorisa reflected on the University’s inception with a modest cohort of 98 students in the 2010/2011 academic session, which has burgeoned to a current enrollment of 8,500 students under his stewardship, projecting an increase to 12,000 by the 2025/2026 academic session.
However, he underscored that the predominant challenge remains a severe deficit in infrastructure and facilities. "One of the pressing challenges facing OAUSTECH at present is infrastructure. I am pleased to report that we are making significant strides. The Advancement Board will be instrumental in ensuring the provision of essential physical development, machinery, chemical reagents, and other infrastructural resources vital for teaching and research excellence," he articulated. "As you are all aware, no government, globally, can shoulder this responsibility alone.
The existing facilities are currently overstretched, hence, the urgent need for your immediate intervention," the Vice-Chancellor beseeched. The institution's leader enumerated several of his noteworthy accomplishments over the past three years in office, including the promotion of academic and research excellence that has garnered international recognition and scholarship awards for both staff and students of the University in the United States and beyond. He highlighted the direct admission of four students into PhD programs in the USA without the prerequisite of a Master's degree, as well as the expansion of academic schools from three to seven since 2022, with the introduction of the School of Nursing and Allied Sciences, School of Management Sciences, School of Earth Sciences, and School of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Additional milestones include the introduction of cutting-edge programmes such as Medical Laboratory Science, Public Health, Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Economics, and Public Administration over the past year, with plans for B.Sc. Meteorology and Climate Science, B.Sc. Cyber Security, and four courses in the School of Maritime Transport and Logistics forthcoming. He further accentuated other significant achievements, such as the full accreditation of all University programmes by the NUC, COREN, and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, among others, alongside collaborations, internationalization, and partnerships with world-renowned universities, and infrastructural advancements facilitated by Tetfund interventions and contributions from philanthropists like the Owotuga Foundation.
Expressing gratitude to distinguished individuals for their willingness to serve on the University Advancement Board, the Vice-Chancellor delineated the Board's responsibilities as attracting essential teaching, learning, research, and infrastructural resources through fundraising, alumni relations, collaborations, and partnerships. He emphasized the importance of supporting the University's mission by establishing and reviewing objectives, developing priorities, agreeing on strategies, monitoring progress, and steering the institution towards becoming a world-class citadel in alignment with the vision and aspirations of its founding fathers.

Therefore, I implore you all to extend your support to the University to ensure that OAUSTECH realizes its vision and mission to rank among the premier universities in the world," Ologunorisa concluded. The Board members expressed their enthusiasm for the assignment, pledging to work diligently, leveraging their expertise, experience, connections, and goodwill to significantly advance the University.
